Environmental Sustainability is maintaining a healthy environment includes clean air, clean water and a living area free from pollution in which resources are used wisely to meet the need of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Foster City is in the process of updating its Climate Action Plan.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Foster City continues to show its commitment to environmental stewardship by unveiling four public EV fast charging stations at the shared Library parking Lot, located at 1000 E. Hillsdale Blvd. The chargers are open to the public and owned and operated by EVgo (www.evgo.com). EVgo offers both a pay-as-you-go per-minute rate as well as a monthly membership plan which delivers EV drivers a lower cost per minute charging price. Disposable Food Service Ware Ordinance
In February of 2022, there was an update to the Disposable Food Service Ware Ordinance (San Mateo County Ordinance Code Chapter 4.107) to align with new State food ware laws. The purpose of the ordinance is to reduce waste in our environment and litter in our rivers and ocean, protect public health, and reduce our dependence on plastic.
Beacon Awards
Over the past several years, the City of Foster City has received several Beacon Awards from the Institute for Local Government and the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative.
The Beacon Program provides a framework for local governments to share best practices that create healthier, more vibrant and sustainable communities. The program honors voluntary efforts by local governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy, and adopt policies that promote sustainability.
In 2019, Foster City achieved a Gold Level Beacon Award, having previously won Silver in 2017, as well as Platinum or Gold in other categories as well.
